TF-104G "RT-681" Esk 723 RDAF at Rhein-Main AB, Frankfurt 1975 TF-104G, construction number 583C-5525, model 583-10-20, US serial number 63-12681, built by Lockheed manufactured by Lockheed; assembly at Lockheed, Palmdale; Lockheed test flights on April 31, 1964 at Palmdale, CA USAF delivery date on August 6, 1964 via Luke AFB to MOAMA (Mobile Air Materiel Area), Brookley AFB, Alabama; for preparation for sea transport to DenmarkMAP to Denmark on November 23, 1964 by ship "USS Fiddler" to Nørresundby harbour; Esk 726 coded RT-681 on December 7, 1964; Esk 723 on October 6, 1966 February 4, 1969 painted in an all green camouflage scheme crashed with Esk 723 on June 13, 1975 NW of Fynshoved into the sea due to a Compressor Stall with 2.508 flight hours, both pilots ejected safely; rescued by a fishing boat. Friday June 13, 1975 Bo H. Johansen and Jorgen Stentoft (front) ejected from TF104G 681 after compressor stall; RT-681 crashed during a target flight mission for two other aircraft, taking off from Tirstrup Air Station heading towards Samsø. When the pilot applied Full Military throttle north-east of Samsø he heard a loud bang, then a rumbling sound which both pilots identified as a compressor stall. The pilots tried to restart the engine, but without success and they ejected at 5 second intervals to safety. The plane hit the water approximately 7 km north of Fynshoved. cause: A broken compressor blade in stage-1 resulted in reduced engine power. copyright © Peter Doll
