In September 1958, twelve F-104A of the 83rd FIS at Hamilton AFB were crated and airlifted by
C-124 transport to Tao Yuan AB, ROC (Taiwan), where they served temporarily with the
Republic of China Air Force (Taiwan) during the Quemoy crisis.
The crisis was peacefully resolved, and the aircraft were returned to the USA.
Aircraft were transferred to the 337 FIS in December 1958, returned to the USA in March 1959.
