F-104C 476th TFS "Blue Knights" 1962 to Hahn AB, Germany during the Berlin Wall Crisis showing the early pylon mounting

On all early models (F-104A-D) the pylons were mounted perpendicular to the bottom of the wing.
The pylon attachment point, which is a round part, fits up and into the wing.
It's the round part which is angled, the same amount that the wing is slanted down.
This results in a vertical pylon, on the F-104 "Gustav", versus a slanted pylon on the "C" model, and noted on early F-104G.
Of course then, the outside edge of the pylon which is mated to the bottom of the wing is trimmed off so it fits flush with the bottom of the wing.
All very necessary to permit vertical installation of the pylon stores. It made it easier to load things.
