This Starfighter was the very first delivered Taiwanese F-104G. It flew flawlessly until its retirement in March 1991. It was put on display at CCK on a display platform until at least August 2007.
Then the aircraft has been refurbished and officially erected on a pole at CCK AFB on January 10th, 2009. In total this aircraft has flown 5.137 flight hours!
After serving with the ROCAF for thirty-eight years, the F-104 was officially withdrawn from service in the decommissioning ceremony held at Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) Air Base on May 22, 1998.
The base is home to the 8th TFS, the first ROCAF squadron to operate the F-104. The 8th TFS took delivery of its first F-104s (A and B models) on May 17, 1960.
It was for this reason that the ceremony was held at CCK, rather than Hsinchu AB, where the last operational F-104s had been based.
