The 207th Squadron was formed on March 31, 1966 at Hyakuri, within 7 Air Wing, with F-104J as Fighter Interceptor squadron.
The 207th was transferred from Hyakuri AB (7th Air Wing) to Naha AB, Okinawa (83rd Air Group) on November 7, 1972.
The 207th was the last surviving F-104 squadron within the JASDF and disbanded on March 19, 1986.
Tail marking of the 207 squadron during 1972-86 after they moved to Naha. The outline of this red figure is a stylized 2,
the blue ellipse can be read as "Zero", and the white portion outlined in red is a stylized "7".
So, this tail-marking can be read as "207" all together. The four white stars in the blue ellipse represent the Southern Cross, which can be seen only in the Okinawa area within Japan.
