CF-104A "770", ex USAF F-104A 56-0770, with US registration 60770 on the tail

CF-104A 12700, construction number 183-1058, model 183-93-02, ex-USAF serial number 56-0770, built by Lockheed
loaned to Lockheed in February 1961 and converted from an F-104A to a CF-104A
(including the larger F-104D tail) July 20, 1961; Its first flight in the new configuration was on September 1, 1961
It was taken on service by the RCAF June 27, 1963 and was delivered to the RCAF from the USAF's Sacramento Air Logistics Area July 11, 1963
transferred to RCAF as CF-104A with serial number 12700
Set with AETE a Canadian altitude record of 100,100 feet on December 14, 1967
Wing Commander Robert White didn't reach the world record altitude, but did set a new Canadian record, which still stands.
W/C White began the climb profile at 70,000 feet and that he was along for the ride "like a fly on an artillery shell".
He said he could control the aircraft's attitude, but not the trajectory of the flight.
