CF-104D "649" 417 Squadron from CFB Cold Lake 1969 CF-104D, Lockheed model 583-04-15, Lockheed construction number 583A-5319, RCAF serial number 12649, Mk.1 (Dual Training Aircraft), built by LockheedMay 10, 1963 taken on charge; served at RCAF Station Cold Lake, Alberta with 6 ST/R OTU later 417 Squadron at CFB Cold Lake; the original RCAF serial numbers for the CF-104 were changed in June 1970 crashed November 17, 1977, aircraft struck ground on a frozen lake near Cold Lake during Air Combat training; neither pilot ejected the cause is unknown but believed to have been disorientation after flying into a cloud. The aircraft was destroyed; the plane was missing and found a month later on December 18, 1977. copyright @ CAF DND archive
