CF-104 "827" landing at Sollingen 1965 with a MN-1A practice bomb dispenser CF-104, Canadair model CL-90, Lockheed model 683-04-12, Canadair construction number 683A-1127, RCAF serial number 12827, built by Canadairfirst flight August 30, 1962; delivery date March 8, 1963; first unit 1 Air Division (1 AD) RCAF; reserialed as 104827 effective June 1970 at Tiger meet 1973 at Cameri AB, Italy crashed after a midair collision with a Piper Tri-Pacer (D-????) near Baden, Germany on July 29, 1982 while on a training mission. It was assigned to 1 CAG and flown by 439 Squadron that day, the pilot Col. Jack L. Frazer was the Base Commander at CFB Baden-Sollingen, he ejected successfully, struck off service on December 15, 1982 The other airplane was a civil Cessna sport plane, also crashed killing both 2 persons inside. On the ground also 1 person was killed. The CF104-pilot, Col. Jack L. Frazer used his ejection seat successfully. Both aircraft came down on fire. My second ejection was on July 29, 1982 from CF104 12827. A civilian light aircraft collided with me head on with me taking his left wing and tail plane off and his wing taking one and a half feet of my left wing off. My aircraft began rolling out of control and I ejected just past the inverted position at about 700 feet above ground - a good system and a large depression in the ground under my ejection point saved my life. Unhappily, my aircraft impacted a house on the ground, killing the 19 year old occupant and both people in the other aircraft were killed. In the collision, my left hand became jammed on the throttle and my elbow was turned "inside out" when the seat rose up the rails. Since the ejection was at over 500 MPH I suffered some other damage as well but all in all was very fortunate. Jack Frazer copyright © Peter Doll
