Hptm Lehnert and Oberleutnant Frye of Waffenschule der Luftwaffe discussing the flight in 1962 Hptm Klaus Lehnert, Jagdbombergeschader 31 (FBW 31), Norvenich Maj Klaus Lehnert crashed on December 6, 1965 near Narwik, Norway due to engine flame-out (no more fuel) after take-off from Norvenich AB, pilot got incapacitated due to oxygen problems. Take off time 17.09 hours Norvenich AB, heading North at approx. 40.000 ft on Autopilot, after 11 min all radio contact was lost, crash time 19.41 crashed at Emmenes, Ankenes, just 4 km south west of Narwik, Norway after running out of fuel. First intercepted in Denmark by two F-100, then intercepted by two F-104G from 331 Sqn Bodø, they flew very close to DA+254 so the lights were lightening up the cockpit to the pilot, the pilot was unconscious or dead due to oxygen problems. copyright © Grondstein archive
